Mixed Media (Journal Fodder Junkies)

 Mixed Media art

There are so many fun techniques! Use what supplies you can find around your house; Old magazines, scissors, glue, markers, spray bottles, pencils, crayons, foil, string, thread, watercolor paint. Truly what ever supplies you have.

I was so inspired by the video above I started creating my own versions

All of these are works in progress. That's what I think is so fun about this you can keep layering and layering.

Insects made from Nature

Using nature to create insects

Look what I found in a National Geographic Magazine! This goes along so well with the Andy Goldsworthy Lesson I posted last week.

Great Ideas shared with me

I am so grateful for so many people giving me wonderful ideas on how to stay creative in this time! Thank you!!!

I will continue to share.

Our neighborhood is doing a window/driveway scavenger hunt. When you go outside on a daily walk you can look for different drawings or words in windows or driveways. You could organize for your neighborhood. Ours is:

Found Object Color Wheel

got this great idea from the art teacher at Eagle Ridge Elementary. I loved the idea so much I had to share it with you!

This we can all do no actual art supplies needed. It's like a scavenger hunt in your house!

When you are finished please take a picture and share it to Fox Creek Creates

Once you have enjoyed it and shown your family please, please, please, put everything back where it belongs! I hope that you are helping your parents with keeping your home in order!

Here's one that Josie and I collaborated on it was super fun!

Origami Crane

Click on the link above to watch how to fold an origami crane using an old magazine page.

I think you all know how much I LOVE Origami the ancient Japanese art of folding paper.
Ori means folding and Gami means paper. I Love that!

Typically I only teach this to my 6th Graders but there's this ancient legend that if you fold 1000 paper cranes the Gods will grant you a wish. Maybe if we all fold 1000 and wish for healing from this pandemic it will happen!  I know I've personally folded many more than 1000 but one time I intentionally folded 1000 and kept them all until I was finished and my wish DID come true! After I finished I gave them away because they happen to be a sign of peace too.
I used to read the picture book Sadako and the 1000 paper cranes to my 6th graders as they were folding theirs, but I could never get through it without crying....It's such a great book.

I may have a little obsession with origami cranes 😊😊😊

Homemade Play Dough

I miss clay so much! Here's another great way to make 3-D creations.

Homemade Play Dough

This recipe is great. I actually like it better than store bought play dough, it crumbles less!
You may not have all the ingredients in your home but maybe on your next journey to acquire groceries you could pick up what you need.

1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoons cream or tartar or alum
1 tablespoon oil
food coloring (optional)
essential oil (optional)

Mix together and cook until it starts to clump together. Put on a plate or piece of wax paper to cool. Mix in food coloring if you wish.

Here are some pictures of my daughter Josie and I making the play dough.  I recommend parental supervision!
one cup flour

one cup water

1/2 cup salt

2 TBS cream of tarter or Alum

1TBS oil

Here's where parental supervision is important.

Turn the stove on medium low and stir making sure the bottom doesn't burn.

Add essential oil so it smells great!

Add food coloring if desired. You could always paint when dry.

Mix mix mix we recommend gloves because our fingers got a little stained.

You all know I love the Rainbow!

Have fun I hope you can share your creations with me! Here at this album  https://photos.app.goo.gl/k6GpNfrLtU1Wy6Xn7

Andy Goldsworthy

The artist Andy Goldsworthy collaborates with nature. Andy Goldsworthy is a sculptor and photographer.  Who lives in the UK.  He makes  sculptures and art in natural settings.
Here are some of his sculptures. He takes things from nature and arranges them in beautiful unique ways.

What can you find in your yard to create something in the style of Andy Goldsworthy?  I was looking around my yard and found snow, sticks, stones, and  pinecones.  Think about pattern, line, symmetry, Asymmetry and shape.

Chalk art

Here's a way to get outside and beautify your yard! All you need is painters tape,  sidewalk chalk, and a fence.
 1. Make an abstract design using painters tape.
 2. Color with sidewalk chalk (can dip chalk in water for a more creamy feel).
 3. Remove painters tape.

4. Enjoy (It will wash off with rain, snow or hose.)
